3D Scanner Price Malaysia

FreeScan handheld scanner in its case with the soft pouch, dongle box, targets, wipes and calibration documents
What actually arrives: the scanner, its case, the licence, the targets and the paperwork — a system, not a box

The price of a 3D scanner in Malaysia depends on its accuracy, scan speed, technology and software bundle — ranging from professional handheld scanners to six-figure industrial metrology systems. This guide explains the price tiers and what you get at each level, so you can budget for the scanner that actually matches your application.

3D scanner price tiers

Category Tier Best for
Professional handheld (EinScan Rigil, EinScan Trak, EinScan Libre) Professional Design, reverse engineering, heritage and healthcare
Metrology handheld for fine detail (FreeScan Combo+ Wireless, FreeScan UE Pro2) Metrology Industrial inspection, QC, GD&T
Tracked systems for large assemblies (FreeScan Trak Pro2, Trak ProW, Trak Nova) Metrology — tracked Large parts measured to a certified tolerance
Automated / stationary (OptimScan Q12, AutoScan Inspec2) Metrology — automated High-volume inspection, automated production

Exact pricing varies with configuration, accuracy grade and the included software, so contact us for a current quote matched to your project. We will recommend the most cost-effective scanner for your accuracy and budget.

What affects 3D scanner price?

  • Accuracy and resolution — metrology-grade accuracy costs more than design-grade.
  • Technology — laser scanners handle shiny and dark surfaces and command a premium.
  • Scan speed and field of view — faster, wider capture increases cost.
  • Software — inspection and reverse engineering software is often the deciding factor on total price.
  • Support — local training, calibration and warranty add long-term value.

Handheld vs stationary — which should you budget for?

Handheld scanners give the best flexibility for a given budget and suit most reverse engineering and inspection work. Stationary or automated scanners make sense when you scan many similar parts in a controlled production line and need repeatable, hands-off measurement. If you are unsure, start from your application and ask us — we will point you to the right tier.

Before the quotation: we look at the part, the tolerance and the volume — that is what decides the tier

Scanning software cost

Remember to budget for software alongside the scanner. A 3D scanner alone produces a mesh; turning that into a CAD model or an inspection report requires reverse engineering or inspection software. We quote scanner-plus-software packages so there are no surprises.

Quick verdict: a 3D scanner is priced by the tolerance you have to prove, not by its size. A metrology handheld that holds 0.02 mm with ISO 10360 acceptance testing costs a different order of money from a design-grade machine, and most of the difference lives in the verification, the software and the support around it.

What actually drives the price

Two scanners can look identical and sit far apart in price, because the cost sits in things you cannot see in a photograph:

  • The accuracy class and its evidence. A metrology handheld such as the FreeScan Combo+ Wireless is quoted at 0.02 mm with ISO 10360 acceptance testing; a tracked system such as the FreeScan Trak Pro2 reaches 0.023 mm across a 9.6 m³ volume. Proving a number costs more than claiming one.
  • How the scan is referenced. A tracker or a photogrammetry frame removes the drift that builds up when you scan a large part by hand — that hardware is a large part of the bill.
  • The software that turns data into an answer. Scan-to-CAD conversion, GD&T inspection and reporting are licensed separately from the scanner, and they are priced per seat.
  • What the part demands. Shiny, transparent, hot or black surfaces need preparation or different optics; deep bores and internal features may need a contact probe on the same system.
  • Local support. Training, calibration, spare parts and a phone number that answers — in Malaysia, this is part of what you are buying.

The whole system, not the box

Component Why it matters When you need it
Scanner Sets the accuracy class and the working volume Always
Software Turns a mesh into a CAD model, a report or a print-ready file Almost always — quoted with the machine
Reference hardware Photogrammetry targets, tracking bar or turntable — removes drift on large or repetitive work Parts beyond hand-held size, or repeat inspection
Fixturing and preparation Markers, spray, clamps, a stable bench: the usual cause of a scan that will not align Any metrology-grade job
Training and commissioning An operator who trusts the numbers is what makes the machine earn With every system
Calibration and service Keeps the stated accuracy true over years, and keeps reports defensible Annual, for inspection work

This is why we quote against your parts rather than publish a number: the honest figure depends on which of these rows you need. See the full range on the 3D scanner page or read how to choose a scanner.

Three ways to get the job done

  • Buy the system — the right answer when scanning is a recurring part of your work, because the machine pays for itself against the alternative.
  • Use a scanning service — for one-off parts, peaks, or to test whether the workflow fits before you commit. See 3D scanning service and its pricing, or send us a part.
  • Start with a demo — we scan your own part in Kuala Lumpur or on your site, so the decision is made on your geometry and your tolerance rather than a spec sheet.

Frequently asked questions

What does a metrology handheld 3D scanner cost in Malaysia?

We quote per project rather than publish a list price, because the number depends on the accuracy class you need, the software seats, the reference hardware and the training that goes with it. Tell us the part and the tolerance you have to prove and we will quote the complete setup.

Why do you not publish prices?

Because a scanner is configured, not picked off a shelf. Two customers buying the same handheld can need different software, different fixturing and different calibration arrangements, and publishing a headline number would mislead both of them.

Is a cheaper scanner enough for my work?

Sometimes, yes — if the tolerance is loose and the parts are simple, a design-grade machine will do the job and we will say so. If the output has to stand up to a customer, an auditor or an accreditation body, the money belongs in a metrology instrument with acceptance testing.

How much does the scanning software add?

Treat software as a separate, ongoing line: scan-to-CAD conversion and inspection reporting are licensed per seat and per year in most cases. We quote it with the machine so the workflow is complete, rather than leaving you with data you cannot use.

Can I try before buying?

Yes. A live demonstration with your own part is the standard route, and if you only need a result rather than a machine, our scanning service will produce it for you while you decide.
