FreeScan Combo in Malaysia: Combo Plus vs Combo+ Wireless

The FreeScan Combo is Shining 3D’s hybrid-light metrology handheld generation — a compact scanner carrying both a blue laser and an infrared VCSEL light source in a 193 × 63 × 53 mm body weighing 620 g. At launch it was one machine; in Malaysia today the family has two current configurations, and this guide explains the difference so you can pick the right one.

Both are metrology-class handhelds with 0.02 mm-class accuracy, both are supplied, demonstrated and supported locally by Trinventor Solution — and both are current products, not superseded models. If you have seen the Combo described in older articles, this is the article that tells you what to buy now.

The two current configurations

FreeScan Combo Plus FreeScan Combo+ Wireless
Connection Tethered Cordless — Wi-Fi 7
Light source Blue laser + infrared VCSEL (hybrid) Hybrid light — 93 laser lines, with a 25-line detail mode
Accuracy 0.02 mm class ISO 10360-certified, 0.02 mm class
Best for Bench and workshop metrology: reverse engineering, inspection and deep-hole capture with a workstation beside you Inspection that leaves the bench: large panels, deep pockets and on-site work without a cable

What stays the same across the family

  • Hybrid light source. Blue laser modes give accuracy on dark, reflective and machined surfaces; the infrared VCSEL mode captures markerless, fast data across larger areas and complex shapes.
  • Metrology-level accuracy. Up to 0.02 mm, which is what makes the Combo usable for part inspection and reporting as well as reverse engineering.
  • Speed. Scanning above 60 fps with up to 1,860,000 points per second — long sessions without waiting on the capture.
  • Deep-hole data. The single-line mode reaches geometry that multi-line scanners struggle with: engine blocks, casting moulds and other enclosed features.
  • Local support. Installation, hands-on training and after-sales support in Malaysia, with official warranty cover.

Scanning modes and what each is for

  • 13 cross blue laser lines — global smooth scanning across a part.
  • 7 parallel blue laser lines — fine detail work.
  • 1 single blue laser line — deep-hole and hard-to-reach data.
  • Infrared VCSEL + large field of view — markerless, fast capture of large or awkward objects, including people and organic shapes.

Which one should you choose?

Three questions decide it:

  • Does the scanner leave the bench? Inspection on ladders, inside plant or around assemblies favours the Combo+ Wireless — Wi-Fi 7 removes the cable, and nothing snags. If all your work sits on a bench with a workstation beside it, the Combo Plus does the same job for less.
  • What are you scanning? Large panels and deep pockets are exactly what the Combo+ Wireless is specified for. Bench parts, deep holes and mixed surfaces are the Combo Plus’ home ground.
  • How will the data be used? If the workflow ends in an inspection report, both machines are metrology-class — the Combo+ Wireless adds ISO 10360 certification to the paperwork.

Either way, the honest answer comes from a demonstration with your own part — that is how you judge surfaces, tolerance and handling before you commit.

Buying a FreeScan Combo in Malaysia

Both configurations are available to order now, with installation, training and local after-sales support. We demonstrate in Kuala Lumpur and on customer sites across Malaysia, using your own parts wherever possible. To see what else sits alongside them, browse the metrology scanner range, read the 3D scanner buyer’s guide or the scanner cost guide — or book a demonstration.

Frequently asked questions

Is the FreeScan Combo still available in Malaysia?

Yes. The family is current — the FreeScan Combo Plus and the FreeScan Combo+ Wireless are both available to order, supplied and supported locally by Trinventor Solution.

What is the difference between the Combo Plus and the Combo+ Wireless?

The Combo Plus is the tethered configuration. The Combo+ Wireless is the cordless generation: Wi-Fi 7 removes the cable, and it carries 93 laser lines with a 25-line detail mode while keeping the same 0.02 mm accuracy class, certified to ISO 10360.

What accuracy does the FreeScan Combo family hold?

Both configurations are metrology-class machines at up to 0.02 mm. The Combo+ Wireless carries ISO 10360-certified accuracy, so its results can support inspection and reporting.

What can a FreeScan Combo scan?

Deep holes and enclosed features with the single-line mode; dark, reflective and machined surfaces with the blue laser modes; large panels and complex or organic shapes, markerless, with the infrared VCSEL mode. Typical work: reverse engineering, quality control, product design and additive manufacturing.

Can I try the FreeScan Combo before buying in Malaysia?

Yes — we run live demonstrations in Kuala Lumpur and on site, and we will scan your own part so you can judge the result first. If you only need a result rather than a machine, our 3D scanning service covers that too.
